Pastor's Corner

Pastor David J. Cook

Welcome to our West Corners Baptist Church website. We’re glad you’re visiting today. I'm David John Cook, Pastor of our church which is located in Endicott NY. I’ve been serving as pastor here since 2004. Prior, I was a deacon at our church from 1998 till 2003. My Uncle Ken’s family attended this church since the mid-60’s, and I sporadically attended our church at special functions, so I’ve had a long relation with the West Corner’s Baptist Church.
I was born (4/1957) and raised in the Endicott area along with my three brothers and our sister Lianne. My father worked at IBM, a major component of the Triple Cities community, and I grew up working in my Grandfather Hogan’s grocery store, a longtime fixture in Endicott.

I was saved at the age of nine at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in Endicott. I worked a number of jobs, primarily as a musician working throughout New York state.

I met my wonderful wife Kathleen Joanne Harrison in 1985, and we married at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Endicott in January 1986. We’ve been blessed with our daughter Karen Leigh; and two sons, Ian Harrison and Colin Edwin. We started attending the West Corners Baptist Church in 1988, where I was convicted of my salvation (1992) under the pastorship of T. Dennis Cartner and baptized.

The West Corners Baptist Church is celebrating 70 years of bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our area of Endicott. At one point, during IBM’s heyday (the church located at a crossroads to three major IBM facilities), it had over 200 members. Today is much different as IBM plays only a very small part in our community. Endicott struggles to find its place in a new economy. Our church now has a much smaller membership, but it’s a family of very loyal and hardworking members. We have no “pew sitters”.

We are a Bible preaching and teaching church. I as pastor endeavor to preach the Bible as God’s Word to us, giving us hope and strength through the relating of REAL people who lived and worked through REAL historical events. The Old Testament prophets and the New Testament disciples were like us in many ways, and the record of God’s activity in their lives puts flesh and bone on the relationship they had with the Lord. I firmly believe the Bible is a vital part of our relationship with God. It is a “flashlight” that helps us in dark times, illuminating the workings of God in our lives.

The flood of 2011 impacted us in a very real way, decimating 80% of our immediate neighborhood (which will never return), and substantially damaging the first floor of our church and parsonage. The Lord blessed us as our sanctuary is on the second floor. We and the 20% of our neighborhood that can rebuild are slowly recovering. We occasionally team up with other bible teaching churches in our area to help with various aspects of rebuilding in our community (Hi Pastor Bob and Pastor Ben!).

As we recover, we see new areas of our community that need the light of Jesus Christ, so we’ve been working on new focuses of outreach. We invite you to look at our site to see upcoming events we have planned (such as our Vacation Bible School this summer, and a Missions Conference coming in the fall) as well as other things we are doing to bring the light of Jesus to our community.

If you are ever in our area we would love to have you stop in and visit. We are located on Rt.26N, right next to a long time local fixture, Phil’s Chicken House (a great place to eat after the services!).

If you live in our area and are looking for a church to attend, we encourage you to come worship with us. You’ll find we’re a bit different. AND, as we rebuild, you’ll find we have plenty of ministry opportunities that YOU might fill should the Lord be urging you in that capacity.

Thanks again for visiting our site. God Bless You.
Pastor Dave.
