The Flood of 2011

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011 the Nanticoke Creek over flowed its banks into the community of West Corners, NY. Our friends, family, and neighbors had to be evacuated from their homes, many for the second time in five years. Unlike the flood that occurred in the summer of 2006 this flood went into the basements of both the church and parsonage and caused considerable damage to the furnishings in both. Despite the time of disaster and destruction the hand of God worked through this disaster for His honor and glory. The gifts of many people have helped us rebuild section by section. This event reminded us of the verses studied in the book of Jeremiah only weeks before the flood, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29.11). The church is still rebuilding, but with the help of God we are moving forward.
